Project name: Water Provision Project

Scope: Converting diesel powered borehole pumping to solar-powered for the provision of water for artificial waterholes for wildlife in Protected Areas, as a way to reduce the movement of wildlife into human settlements to address the issues of Human Wildlife Conflict in communities residing close to wildlife areas.

Outcome: KCS solarised boreholes in various parks and reserves, namely; Chobe National Park, Nxai Pan and Makgadikgadi National Parks, Central Kalahari Game Reserve and Khutse Game Reserve, and the Kalahari Transfrontier Park, together with some in hunting areas between Nata and Pandamatenga.

Project name: Enterprise Development in CBNRM project

Scope: Through the CBNRM programme, KCS is facilitating and implementing a capacity building project aimed at enhancing understanding of alternative livelihoods options for communities to diversify their benefits, whilst maintaining conservation balance in CBNRM.

Through the project over 500 people in Community Based Organisations (CBO’s), have been trained in CBNRM governance, financial management and controls, CBNRM project establishment and management, this is a good start and refresher for those that have had some introduction to the CBNRM programme in the past.

Outcome: A cultural village is being constructed in partnership with Ngande Community Trust in Khumaga while a craft centre has been constructed in Mathathane in partnership with Motlhabaneng-Lentswelemoriti- Mathathane (MOLEMA) Community Trust. Over 500 community people trained in CBNRM practices.

Project name: Southern African Development Community Ground Water Management Institute (SADC-GMI)

Scope: The project aims to resuscitate the pilot projects and supply water to establish community-led horticultural gardens in Tsetsebjwe and Gobojango villages using a solarised irrigation system.

Outcome: Cultivation of 1-hectare horticultural plots using a solar irrigation system in Tsetsebjwe and Gobojango.
